A personal note from Leigh, regarding the design process.
My work is my passion, and I take it very seriously. I throw my heart and soul into every job, into every client relationship. Why? Because I honestly believe that every space is special, that each person inhabiting a space is special, and that everyone deserves to be surrounded by comfort and beauty. No exceptions.
One of my real pet peeves is when designers are asked about their "signature style". I don't like to think of my work that way. I prefer to think of it as me helping you put your signature style on your space. These thoughts were the first steps in the evolution of what I like to call my Five-Prong Philosophy on Design. The five prongs are:
* It's not about me.
* It's all about you.
* Good design should be affordable and accessible.
* Designing your space shouldn't be scary or intimidating.
* A good house is never done.
Please let me explain....
It's not about me. As a designer and consultant, it's not my job to impose my personal style or taste on you, my client. My style, the manner in which I decorate my own home, is essentially irrelevant.
It's all about you. You. Your budget, your wishes, your likes and dislikes will always drive the design process.
Good design should be affordable and accessible. I believe that everyone should have access to the guiding principles and essential elements of good design. Regardless of tax bracket or social status, there isn't a single person who doesn't deserve to have their home be comfortable, functional and beautiful. There are things that can be done for $5, and things that cost $50,000, and a whole range in between. It is my job to help you create the best space possible while always being respectful of your budget.
Designing your space shouldn't be scary or intimidating. Most people are overwhelmed by all the choices out there. I'll help you weed through the options, make informed decisions, and lose your fear of commitment. My goal is to erase the anxiety and show you how much fun designing your home can be.
A good house is never done. Design isn't static, and it doesn't necessarily have an end point. As our lives change, so do our need and desires; it follows that our homes must change as well. An integral part of my design plan is to give you the home you want now, while imbuing it with the flexibility to adapt to future changes.
These are the guiding concepts of my company. Arranging furniture in a room or painting a wall are the easy steps. The big steps are the important ones: getting to know you, my client; spending time listening to you; becoming familiar with your home and how you live in it; learning about your hobbies, your travels, your family, your dreams. These are the things that inform the design process, that allow me to help you transform your house into your home. I look forward to sharing that experience with you.
